Ampthill V Mowden Park

Director of Rugby Mark Lavery comments “The game of the day in National 1 with 2nd playing 3rd at Dillingham Park and just 6 points between two sides playing for the runner up spot.

The history between the clubs is fairly recent but it has been pivotal in the development of both with Mowden Park winning the National 1 play off game against Ampthill at the Northern Echo Arena in extra time while the year after Amps won the same National 1 play off against Bishop Stortford to follow DMP into level 3.

With both clubs established in National 1 the advantage has been very much in Mowden Park’s favour with 4 wins out of 5 games and as one DMP coach commented after the tight earlier game this year ‘winning in the last minute is becoming a bit of a habit’, frankly a fact I can’t deny.

Head Coach Paul Turner comments “Mowden Park are an extremely efficient side that play a very attractive style of rugby and they sit in second place in the league on merit. A massive challenge for us and we look forward to the game this Saturday.

We have had an inconsistent season so far but in recent weeks we have been beginning to show better application and concentration which has led to a good run of results.

DMP represent a huge test for the playing group and Saturday’s game will give us a clear understanding of how far we have progressed recently.
