Rutheless Second Half Puts Moseley To The Sword
Ampthill welcomed Moseley to Dillingham Park on a wet afternoon with persistent rain. Amps squad changes included Kevin Barrett returning at scrum half while the bench saw Ben Gulliver return from injury and Gavin Williams rotate.
The first half was characterised by handling errors from both sides as the bar-of-soap ball proved difficult to control while referee Callum Howard perhaps had his hand in the air too often.
After early Amps pressure Moseley used their forwards to take the lead on 12 minutes when a series of red zone phases saw lock Ciaran Moore squeeze over the line for an unconverted try.
The second half belonged to the hosts who scored 4 further tries through replacement flanker Syd Blackmore (48 minutes), full back Karim Lynch (54), Baker again (62) and Blackmore (76) completed his brace with a fine exhibition of soccer skills dribbling through under the posts.
Ampthill supporters went into the close season with a smile on their faces while much credit must go to Moseley's fancy dress wearing travelling faithful who never stopped singing their appreciation of their team.
Ampthill Head Coach Paul Turner commented "A great finish to the season, after a poor first half we put a good Moseley squad to the sword in the second. At times we were ruthless with Aleki Luti, Maama Molitika and Billy Jonhson standing out while Joe Bercis had another Man of the Match performance. Another good season where any challenge for the top went with our four draws and two last minute losses to Mowden Park."
