1stXV Pre-Season Fixture In Jersey, Sat Aug 13, 2016, 15:00
Ampthill are delighted to provide confirmation of the 1stXV pre-season fixture in Jersey on Saturday August 13th, 2016. This early announcement is designed to assist supporters in making their travel plans.
The history between Jersey & Amps goes back to the short lived RFU National 3 Cup final held at the end of 2009-2010 season at Twickenham when the former ran out winners 21-12.
Just 3 months later Amps travelled to Jersey for a pre-season fixture which saw the now National 2 hosts win 26-14.
For the past two seasons A’s 1881 (2ndXV) and Jersey Athletic have met home & away in the Zoo Sports Shield Division 1 where they have shared the spoils.
Having finished 5th in the Championship in 2015-16, their best ever result, Jersey will no doubt strengthen their squad for the coming season and although the fixture will be partly a training exercise the visitors remain hugely honoured to receive the invitation.
Ampthill’s conections look forward to making new and renewing old acquaintances while surviving the renowned hospitality, a challenge in and of itself as many who have visited before can confirm.
Also on Saturday 13th, the 1881s will be travelling to Tring for a multi club XV tournament.
1stXV Pre-Season Fixture v Bridgend, Sat Aug 20, 2016, 15:00
Saturday August 20th sees Ampthill welcome Bridgend Ravens to Dillingham Park for the second pre-season fixture.
Ravens, formerly Bridgend RFC, play in the Principality Welsh Premiership and are a feeder club to the Ospreys regional side. Since promotion back to the Premiership in 2011 they have finished in the bottom third of the table but won the Swalec Cup in 2015 defeating Pontypridd 19-15 in the final.
The Welsh Premiership was established in 1990 as the top tier in Welsh rugby, in 2003 the advent of Regional Rugby saw the Premiership’s status change with all clubs becoming essentially feeder clubs to the (then) five regions operating on a semi-professional basis.
Recent and current Wales internationals who have played for Bridgend include Scott Baldwin, Lee Byrne, Adam Jones, Ryan Jones, Matthew Morgan and Rhys Webb.
All at Ampthill look forward to welcoming another leading Welsh team for what will no doubt be a very competitive run out.
On the same day, an Ampthill XV will be travelling to Peterborough Lions to participate in their President’s Day celebrations.
