Ampthill u15s travelled to North London for their top of the table Herts./Middx league fixture against London Wasps and with playing conditions near perfect.
Early exchanges saw Wasps make most of the attacking moves with a large amount of the possession, mainly through their large pack. Big tackles coming from Soni Ma-Asi and Charlie Fleckney but an excellent try saving low tackle from Lewis Sharp 5 metres out being the moment that stood out. Ampthill defended strongly and cleared their lines with the scoreboard remaining untroubled until well into the first half when one of the Wasps forwards was able to break through the defensive line for an unconverted try.As the first half drew to a close, following some good work through the backs, the forwards were able to advance on the Wasps try line and that man Soni Ma-Asi crossed the white wash for an unconverted try. So at oranges the score was 5 points each and the Ampthill boys knew they were in a good game against very strong opposition.
The second half began well for Ampthill following some changes at half-time and Soni crossed the line after 35 minutes with a good tap and go try from about 20 metres out. Through the second half, after a number of replacements, Wasps grew in strength and were able to score two further converted tries that Ampthill were unable to answer too with perhaps a few knocks beginning to tell.
Following the game both sides were applauded from the field by a decent size crowd and both sets of coaches were complimentary on the performances of their opposition.
Ampthill u15s now have a couple of weeks rest and training before starting a run of big games which includes the Beds Cup final at Ampthill on 15th March
