Ahead of the 2024-25 season, the Club is pleased to confirm an all new Coaching team for its successful Academy.
Paul Greenway has been appointed as Academy Head Coach. Paul joins from Leighton Buzzard where he played in the 1st XV and held the positions of Forwards, and Assistant Head Coach. Paul is a Level 2 RFU Coach and works with England RFU and Saints DPP.
Paul will be supported by ex-Saracens and Ampthill club captain Dan Phillips who will assist with coaching whilst undertaking a new role in the club of Community Director of Rugby. Dan will be working with the senior club coaches to develop the pathway for young players to progress to Senior Rugby and ultimately the Championship 1st XV.
The lead coaching group is completed by Mark McKinley who transitions from last season’s Bedfordshire Cup winning Under 16s team. Mark has been coaching this age-group for nearly ten years and has been instrumental in the development of one of the most successful youth teams in the County.
Paul, Dan and Mark will also be joined by Ross Lawley, a RFU Level 2 coach, who although had taken a break from coaching for the last few seasons, is wanting to start up again.
They will be further assisted during the season by 1st XV professional players undertaking their coaching badges.
Following his appointment, new Head Coach Paul comments “I am excited for the future and looking forward to helping transition young players into senior rugby at Ampthill. The ultimate goal is to see as many boys as possible progress into the first team here.”
There will be an opportunity to meet the new coaching team at the “Academy Launch Event” at the club on Monday 1st July from 5:30pm.
Players will receive a presentation from the Coaching Team plus members of the Committee, try on the new Canterbury club kit for sizing, before having a game of touch and an opportunity to socialise with new and existing team mates in the clubhouse.
