Bedford School hosted this years Under 15’s ‘DPP’ festival featuring teams from Leighton, Buzzard, Dunstable, Luton, Biggleswade, Bedford & Ampthill. Each side would play three fixtures giving new head coach Paul Allen an ideal opportunity to assess his squad.
Our first fixture was against the County champions Leighton Buzzard, we started the game very brightly & our forwards were a real threat for a strong Buzzard side. Ampthill put in a really strong performance and ended up losing 10-15, with tries from Luke Cox & Aaron Fitzgerald. There were some real positives to take from the performance with all the boys putting in a good ‘shift’.
Our next fixture was against Bedford, unfortunately after conceding a couple of early tries the boy’s heads dropped temporarily and we ended up losing 20-5,our forwards producing a well worked try with James Randall scoring.
Our final fixture was against Dunstable, the first half was very stop start with ref not overly keen to let the game flow, with a try from skipper Archie Barrett all we had to show for our efforts, as the score was 5-5 at the break. After some words of wisdom at half time from head coach Allen the second half was a completely different affair .with the boys putting on an excellent display with three superb team tries in quick succession, the scorers were Josh Hurrell, Luke Cox & Aaron Fitzgerald.
Well done to all the boys that played ,they were all a credit to themselves & Ampthill RUFC, especially those that guested for the other sides.
