The Jets travelled to Putnoe Woods to play local rivals Bedford Athletic in the Bedfordshire Cup Final under the Friday Night Lights with a very young squad – a number of the players had won the Beds Under 18s Cup last Saturday.
The Ath are a well drilled unit and and an early yellow for Jets skipper Crawford gave them the advantage at the scrum and a period of domination that lead to them leading 31-7 at the break.
The Jets rallied during oranges and with a couple of tactical changes took the game to their hosts in the second half . As condition worsened, the Jets handling and speed took control of the game. 3 tries, two converted got the Jets within 5 points and they continued to play in Ath half of the pitch but just couldn’t get across the line. A 79th minute try for Ath put the game beyond the Jets but a heroic effort and a great game for neutrals and advert for Bedfordshire community rugby.
Well done to Bedford Athletic on winning – we’ll see you next season!
