Ampthill Under 16’s started their HML campaign in convincing style at the picturesque Croxley Guild Sport & Social Club, the home of Chess Valley. The first points of the game came via a penalty scored by Harrison Wade, this followed a good early spell of pressure from the visitors. This was quickly followed by Ampthill’s first try from a rolling maul, with Archie Barrett going oveas the Ampthill pack proved too strong for their opposition. A superb spell of flowing rugby followed with ball passing through the hands of five or six players with Josh Kerr scoring under the posts, Harrison Wade duly scoring the conversion. Chess Valley soon hit back with a well worked try of their own to end the first half, with a score of 15-5 to Ampthill.
With the slope in the favour Ampthill really stepped things up the second half, skipper Archie Barrett scoring his second try of the game with a ‘pick and go’ off a scrum in the Chess Valley twenty-two, Tomas Jeans adding the 2 points. Jay Cook then a superb line to add the fourth Ampthill try, the 2 points being added by Josh Kerr. Ampthill continued to dominate the game with their well drilled pack and inventive backs. The scoring was rounded by a piece of quick thinking from centre Nick Challacombe & a trade mark solo effort from winger Jake Allen, running the length of the pitch to score the sixth and final try, Tomas Jeans converted on both occasions to complete the scoring.
