Director of Rugby End Of Year Report 2016
Well, who would have thought it, Ampthill finishing 4th in National 1!
This makes us the 28th most senior rugby Club in England out of over 3,000 Clubs. With the season concluded, Ampthill sit above the established and far better resourced rugby clubs like Rosslyn Park, Esher, Plymouth Albion, Coventry and Fylde to name but a few. The 1st team deserve to be congratulated on this of all evenings to celebrate what has been the highest level that the Club has ever been at in its history.
The 1881’s have had a credible season in Zoo 1, finishing 6th overall. I know the players and the management of the 1881’s are disappointed and frustrated at the lack of availability and injuries towards the end of the season; I remain confident they will have a far better season next year.
The Extra’s finished runners-up in the East Midlands Bombardier League after a close run season long battle with Towcester 2nd team, the Extra’s came in just short.
The Jet’s set sail on a journey of discovery to the Herts & Middlesex Merit table 1 and in their inaugural season they have completed an unprecedented league and cup double. They also came out triumphant in an inter-club match against the Extra’s. Watch this space!
The 5th team have won their 1st promotion in their 2nd season of competitive fixtures coming out victorious and champions of the Young’s London Stout League.
Last but by no means least, the Veterans have continued their missionary work traveling near and far to participate in various fixtures including an open invitation to all the Tongans currently playing their trade in the 1st team. DW ….. there will be a time but just not yet!
The Ladies & Girls section is now firmly established; congratulations to Dave Dunston and the Management and Coaches. This year we have run Under 13’s and Under 15’s girl’s teams and next season, we will add a third Under 18’s ladies team taking us to 3 teams in the ladies and girls section
The senior club has achieved a season way beyond our wildest dreams. The Mini & Youth will be having their presentation day on Sunday and have not only supported but benefited from the senior sections success.
Our “One Club” ethos will never change and we look forward to next season with enthusiasm and excitement.
