The Committee would like to thank all of the members and local residents who took time to attend the Extraordinary General Meeting last night at Dillingham Park.
The purpose of the meeting was for the Committee to present plans for the proposed relocation of the Club to a new fit-for-purpose site at Fordfield Road, almost opposite Centre Parcs and less than ½ mile from our current location.
As a club we have achieved considerable success in our last few years. Whilst there is obvious focus on the 1st XV and our promotion to the Greene King IPA Championship next year, the proposed relocation intends to deliver 21st Century facilities for our Community Rugby Club whose membership has grown by 16% year on year since 2012!
We now have over 1100 members playing in 24 teams. In 2012 we doubled our number of pitches to 4 with the addition of Olney Fields, but we have again outgrown our facilities – such is the popularity and reach of our club across Central Bedfordshire. In moving we aim to provide a minimum of seven pitches, four of which will be floodlit, a purpose built club house with 10 changing rooms including specific facilities for the women and girls teams and disabled access to the whole club, a seated stand and function rooms befitting a club at our 1st XV level plus parking for over 300 cars to ease local traffic issues on match days.
We are pleased to share our plans with you, and are grateful to all of the members who following some lively debate voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed relocation.
There is still lots of work to do in order to achieve this ambition and we don’t underestimate the size of the task, but you the members have now given us a mandate to explore all options to make the project happen and we will do so with the intention of continuing our “Rugby for All” ethos.
