Exeter Chiefs’ Brett Sturgess Joins Ampthill As Player/Coach
Brett Sturgess, Exeter Chiefs Loosehead Prop, who formerly played for Connacht in the Magners League and Northampton Saints in the Premiership has joined Ampthill for season 2016-17 as player and specialist scrum coach.
Born in Kettering 34 years ago, Brett has been a professional rugby player for 17 years. His 6ft 2in (1.88m), 17st 8lb (112kg) frame has seen him not only renowned for his his scrummaging prowess but also his mobility and skills.
Brett represented England in the 2002 U21 RWC and his career includes 48 appearances for Northampton Saints, 19 for Connacht and 168 for Exeter as well as the Barbarians.
Brett comments “I am pleased and excited to join Ampthill and I intend to contribute in any way I can both on and off the field. Having made the decision to return to the East Midlands with my family Ampthill was an obvious choice sealed by the club’s ambition and ethos which reminds me of Exeter when I joined them in 2007.”
