Congratulations to the Ampthill Extras (4th XV) who completed their incredible 500-mile running relay at around 5.30 yesterday evening!
Over 70 current and ex-players (nearly all Extras – including a couple of “wanabee” 1st XV) ran 3 or 6-mile legs around the streets of Ampthill and Flitwick. Some respite was provided overnight by the International Extras representatives in Dubai, Brisbane, Melbourne, Atlanta, and Houston.
Extra’s Captain Andy Hill had the honour of running the final leg with Richard Redman and during their 3-mile stint their target of £10’000 was hit! Their efforts have now raised an amazing £11’365 towards the costs of Covid-19 testing for the 1st XV Championship squad!
Alex Radley, Club Chairman “One amazing feat after another” is how I see the remarkable efforts of the club in fundraising for this season. The Extras have embodied the ethos of the club, provided positive publicity, and with no other motivation than to help their club. Thank you for the sterling effort – I am so proud of this group of guys. Well Done!”
Mark Lavery, Director of Rugby “I am continually overwhelmed by our members support for the cause in hand – not just financially although £11’000 is an unbelievable achievement, but the time that all of these 70 guys have given to show the love they have for our club over this weekend! Thank you to everyone involved, their families, and everybody who made a donation!”
Louis Grimoldy, Club Captain “I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped with the fundraiser and enabled us to play this season. The boys all appreciate it – fingers crossed we’ll be allowed a crowd before the season ends and have an opportunity to thank everyone through our performances on the pitch”
