Ampthill travel to Cornish Pirates looking to build on last weekend’s win over Hartpury University – a game that club captain Louis Grimoldby described as “a rollercoaster” but with Head Coach Paul Turner not underestimating the challenge that the Mennaye men present.
There are two enforced changes in the backs following injuries to Tom Hudson and Jeremy To’a against Hartpury. Richard Streets makes his Ampthill debut at inside centre alongside Joe Roberts. Wingers Will Foster and Will Brown both scored last weekend and start their fifth consecutive games with WASPS Cameron Anderson at full-back this weekend! Jonny Laws and captain Grimoldby start together after inspiring the Ampthill recovery last weekend.
In a pack selected to counter the physical power of the Pirates, Saracens Sam Crean makes his first start at loosehead alongside Syd Blackmore and Aleki Lutui. Llewelyn Jones and Charlie Beckett continue to build their partnership at lock with a back row of Bercis, Humfrey and Stonham who impressed on his full debut last week.
Saturday’s game Kicks Off at 1.30pm and is available on a Livestream through the RFU at https://www.championshiprugby.co.uk/live-streams

Head Coach Paul Turner comments “After what can only be classed as a mad game last weekend, we couldn’t have a tougher fixture than the Pirates at the Mennaye Field with a six-day turnaround.
Whilst we had a number of positives from last weekend’s bonus point win, if we give the Pirates the sort of start we gave Hartpury last weekend we will be in for a very long afternoon.
The Pirates are one of the powerhouse teams in the competition with a big physical forward pack plus a hard running back line. If we are going to get anything out of the afternoon we will have to start well and stay a lot more composed”
