Match Preview: Ealing Trailfinders v 1st XV, 14/01/2023

Ampthill have a tough start to 2023 as they travel to reigning champions Ealing Trailfinders. The Mob will be looking to put their “derby day’ defeat behind them whilst Ealing will be looking to bounce back from their shock defeat away at Caldy last weekend – a result that reminded everyone how competitive the Championship can be.

Ampthill Head Coach Paul Turner makes seven changes to the team that started last time out against Bedford Blues.

Zac Nearchou and Beck Cutting are joined in the front row by the returning Rob Hardwick, captain Beckett has a new partner in the engine room with Cameron Boon making his full debut, whilst Harry Wilson moves to the back row playing on the blindside this week. Josh Smart returns for his first Ampthill start of the season on the openside and Morgan Strong shores things up at eight.

Half backs Pete White and Tom Hardwick came on in the 38th minute against Blues and they both start this week. Josh Bragman starts at twelve alongside George Worth in midfield whilst Ben Harries makes his first start for Ampthill in a back line with Conor Rankin and Tomas Bacon.

Paul Turner ahead of the game “We couldn’t have asked for a much tougher start to the New Year with Ealing tomorrow and then a visit from Coventry next week but as a group we’re really looking forward to the challenge! We ran Ealing close for 60 minutes at our place in September and we need to match that level of performance if we want to get something from the game”
