The Club Committee were saddened to receive the following email from Reg Wood’s daughter, Val this week:
“I would like the Club to know that my father, Reg Wood, passed away last week at the fine age of 93. I think there will still be a few club members who remember him as a founding Vice President, one of a group that included Norman Brown, Dick Dillingham, Ellis Billington, Colin Cresswell et al.
When I was a child, I well remember him actually helping to build the Club’s first clubhouse, behind Parkside Hall. He was a driving force behind the Club throughout the 1970s and 1980s and remained committed to it until he moved from Ampthill in 2000, rarely missing a home match. Rugby was in his blood and until recently, he had many stories to tell about happy hours spent at ARUFC. I don’t think my mother ever really knew what he and his many rugby friends got up to on the annual trip to Jersey!
Should any club members want to make a donation in his memory, the Undertakers, HJ Paintin Ltd (60 Withersfield Road, Haverhill CB9 9HE) will be receiving donations to Dementia UK in his name.
