I am pleased to confirm that rugby is back (again!!).
This week the RFU, with government agreement, has released further information regarding the return to play for the community game.
As we approach the end of the latest lockdown all age groups and senior community rugby teams (below Championship level) can now play 15 a side rugby with adapted rules. Please see further details here:
For those mini, youth and girls coaches, players, and parents that are happy once again to get back to rugby, we will be returning to the club this weekend. (5th & 6th). The RFU have confirmed we will be at Stage E of the Return to Play roadmap (see attached). This means greater contact training and contact games both in training and against other clubs.
Stage E also means a return to Tag rugby for the younger age groups.
There will be no arranged fixtures at the club before Christmas (the earliest fixtures can be played under the guidance is 18/12 anyway) so please do not arrange any games at Ampthill. If you are invited to another club and wish to accept that is ok but please let me know your plans.
Any youth age group that wishes to play fixtures after Christmas with the adapted rules you can start to arrange these however please keep me informed so I can manage pitches and space. I ask that you all remain flexible with arrangements and I will be contacting other local clubs to try and set up some minis fixtures for the New Year.
The clubhouse is currently not opening and there will be no changing rooms. This is under constant review and will be changed when it is deemed appropriate.
The kitchen will be serving food and hot drinks from outside only on Sunday from 9 am until 12/12.30 pm.
I will confirm pitch space and timings later in the week to age group head coaches and team managers along with any further news from the RFU as the week develops.
Finally, so that you are all aware, it is the intention next week to allow a return to midweek training for the senior sides. This will be communicated to these teams by the club’s Director of Rugby Mark Lavery. Mini, Youth, and Girls will not be returning to midweek training just yet and this will also remain under review for the time being while we all get used to the new guidelines.
If anybody has any questions please let me know and I will send a further update out later this week.
Please remember that non-players, coaches, and spectators still need to socially distance during training and the Covid-19 self-declaration by players and coaches needs to be completed prior to attendance. Any positive cases still need to be reported to me.
Thanks all and see you at the weekend.
