Team News: 1st XV v Chinnor

Ampthill welcome Championship new boys and old National League rivals Chinnor RFC to The Olney Field in their first home match of the season tomorrow.

With only a six-day turnaround to Nottingham away next Friday, Head Coach Paul Turner utilises his full squad and makes six changes to the starting XV for ‘The Villagers’ visit.

Defence coach Richard Barrington starts again at loosehead alongside hooker James Hadfield and tighthead Harvey Beaton. Kennedy Sylvester was the coaches Man of the Match at Knights and he starts again with the returning Kaden Pearce-Paul for company in the engine room. Max Eke switches to the openside this week with Olamide Sodeke on the blindside whilst Lekima Ravuvu retains the number eight jersey.

Turner makes two changes in the backs division. Rory Morgan and captain Josh Barton combine again in the half-backs with Josh Hallett partnering Angus Hall in midfield. Last seasons top try-scorer Brandon Jackson returns on the left wing with try-scorer Vereimi Qorowle swopping flanks this week and Oran McNulty continuing at full back.

Ahead of the game Paul Turner said “I’ve got huge respect for Chinnor. They are so much like us, a small club that have battled their way through the leagues to get where they deserve. They are a tough outfit and we’ll need to be better than last week to get the result we want.”
