Director of Rugby Mark Lavery is delighted to confirm signings and retentions of front row players for National 1 for 2018-19.
Joining marquee signing Prop Tongan international Soane Tonga’uiha are:-
Oliver Walliker is a dynamic, ball carrying, robust hooker that will bring extra competition to the role. He made 43 appearances for Old Albanians and has played for Hertfordshire and Hartpury College.
Benjamin Wilkinson has re-joined after spending a season at Tynedale in National 2 North. Having made 3 appearances for Bedford Blues in the Championship and 19 for Ampthill in National 1 he added 27 for Tynedale in National 2 last season playing across the whole front row. Ben’s versatility will be a real bonus in the scrum and lineout.
Academy graduate Charlie Fleckney has joined the Senior Squad for the coming season. Charlie had an outstanding season of age group rugby, which culminated in him representing England in the U20’s County side. Charlie played a number of times for Ampthill’s senior sides last year, and we are sure he will make the transition if he continues to work hard and applies himself in the manner we expect.
Props Matt Collins & Karl Garside (both England Counties), Jack Culverhouse (ex Bedford Blues) and Chris Muncaster graduate of the Ampthill Mini & Youth system have re-signed for 2018-19.
Hookers Aleki Lutui (Tonga, Chiefs, Worcester, Gloucester & Edinburgh who starts his fourth season for Ampthill), Josh Taylor (Old Albanians, 14 appearances for Ampthill) and converted flanker Sydney Blackmore (Wales U20, 31 appearances for Ampthill) have re-signed for 2018-19.
Mark Lavery comments “Year on year our front-row options improve while Soane Tonga’uiha will have a profound impact both in the set piece and the loose in National 1 this coming season.”
