U11 2016-17 Season Review

The U11’s have had another good year with the introduction of a bigger pitch, two players in the ruck & maul and the ability for players to kick. Safe to say we now have some excellent kickers!! We have welcomed a number of new players and their families to the team this year and they have all been a positive addition with all the players showing real progress.

The first festival of the year was the Northampton Saints Land Rover Festival where we took two teams and had a good morning of rugby followed by Saints v Wasps which was a great day.
In November we headed over to Peterborough for another cold day with three teams playing some of the best rugby we have played to date with some lovely passing and great tries.
Christmas was upon us before we knew it and we had another successful Christmas party with all the players and parents making an effort with their Christmas jumpers!!! Father Christmas was, however, rumbled by some of the players!
At the Bedfordshire Festival both our teams played some lovely rugby with some great passing and outstanding defence making it very difficult for all opposition throughout the morning. The team spirit, commitment, respect for the referee, and every player working hard for their teammates is exactly what the game is all about!
On the same day we had two sides at the Olney Development Festival who played good rugby with passing and rucking going well and improving throughout the morning. A number of tries involved everyone in the team and considering the lack of subs the players showed great commitment and teamwork.

The highlight of the season was once again the minis tour with 34 players and their families heading to Great Yarmouth with all the other age groups. Saturday a large group of ‘family scousers’ from the U11’s descended for the first time to Lowestoft & Great Yarmouth Rugby Club for a fun filled morning with rugby, parents and players kicking competition and the raising of the wig and shell suit on the flag mast !!!! Saturday night was movie night and tour court, which dealt with parents and players many misdemeanours from the season. On Sunday went by coach to our friends at Wymondham for a triangular with Norwich which was played in fantastic weather with all the teams playing some lovely rugby (considering the late nights!). The journey back to Yarmouth on the coach involved the usual rugby songs with the support of some of the U8’s!!!
This season we have two players from our age group who are moving on next season to the Girls U13’s Team. Natalie and Lucy have been a pleasure to coach over the past years and have developed into great rugby players. We would like to wish them every success in the future and we look forward to watching their rugby progress over the coming years.
A huge thanks for the season goes again to all the coaches who give up their time to teach the players this great game and the core values which will stand them in good stead on and off the field. Thanks also goes to the Volunteers who fulfil our duty obligations, the Club simply cannot run without you. Special thanks though goes to Angharad for organising everything (on top of Safeguarding for the club – no mean feat!), Nikki for being our age group safeguarding officer and too Rich for organising the great socials such as the Christmas Disco, Quiz / Karaoke Night and legendary Tour!
Look forward to seeing you all next season…. bring on 12 players on the pitch, five in the scrum and the hand-off!!!!
