U13 Away Friendly vs Bedford
Well done everyone!!!!!!
Finally a win over Bedford. Something we haven’t achieved for several years although we have come close…
The weather looked grim at the start but the rain held off once the game started. It was a cagey start with both sides creating chance but not being able to finish them off. There was some good, open rugby played by both sides but our defence led by Josh in the centres kept the Bedford attack from our line.
The Bedford scrum was stronger and was winning their and our ball, however our rucking was better and we turned over a lot of ball. Bedford took the lead through a lucky break in a period where we started to stamp our authority, missing the attempted conversion. After a couple of cut backs, Jack was encouraged to put his foot down and the next time he got the ball, he skinned the oppo winger and put down in the corner.
So all even at 5-5 at half time.
The second half was more of the same, it was a close and enjoyable game to watch. There was nothing silly going on, just hard fought rugby. The next score will go in the pot for try of the season, with Charlie getting hold of the ball, sprinting past several defenders, then finally falling over the line. A great effort, converted by Harry.
Josh Methven then got his reward for a man of the match display, great tackling and hard running, barging his way over the line with 3 defenders hanging on but unable to stop him. Harry converted. Several minutes later after good work from the forwards, the ball was spun wide and again, and after a kick that I know was meant for the corner, Connor tells me different, fell into Jack’s arms allowing him out sprint the oppo to score a little nearer the posts, Connor converting.
The scoring was finished by Jack, scoring his hattrick. A fine break down the right wing by Dominic was eventually caught by the Bedford full-back, but fantastic support play from the forwards allowed the boys to quickly set up another phase spun wide to Jack who went over for his unconverted try in the corner.
Everyone played well but honorable mentions go to Josh, Jack, Charlie and Chris Rempel who had a great game at fullback. Rob said it was his proudest moment as a coach to win in such a fashion. High praise indeed.
