Ampthills U16s final Herts/Middlesex League game of the season saw them at home to local rivals Bedford Blues with good playing conditions and a decent size crowd into watch the encounter.

Bedford came back and scored an equalising try on 22 minutes when Fin Jones took advantage of an Ampthill mistake in defence. The Ampthill forwards dominated especially in the lineout and continued to threaten the Bedford try line and Soni Ma-Asi celebrated his call up for England u16s with a typically brave low line through many defenders to get the ball down just before oranges where Ampthill led 10 points to 5.
The second half continued in the way of the first with both sides making mistakes while in possession costing many yards and Ampthill missed a number of try scoring opportunities. Callum Andrews scored the equalising try for Bedford with a typically strong run midway through the half and the match was now set up for a tense finish. The winning try came 10 minutes from the end when Soni Ma-Asi was again strong in possession and well supported by the pack, the Ampthill supporters were delighted.
The match finished with a 15 points to 10 victory for Ampthill which saw them finish third in the Herts/Middlesex League table behind Ruislip and Fullerians and with thoughts of what could have been achieved, had the side got off to a better start to their league season.
