A really successful season draws to a close and a big well done has to go to all the players, who’ve trained and played the game in the right spirit, with enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn and improve.
Every fixture we’ve played, the feedback has been the same from opposing clubs – ‘great group of players who enjoy themselves and play genuinely great attacking rugby’. Results have been very good, culminating in the age group being crowned joint-winners of the Beds Cup. We’ve also remained unbeaten at other festivals, where there may be no trophies to win, but the players kept focussed on giving 100% in every game.
2016 was the first year we could tour as an age group – we had a great time in Norfolk – really good fun, some great fancy dress efforts and a few fines were paid! The Holt festival on the Sunday was enjoyed by all – again we had unbeaten teams that in another year would have taken home the silverware.
I’ve been able to build a great group of coaches – some had more rugby experience than others when we started out two years ago, but each one, every week, help the players enjoy and learn. Thank you coaches, from myself, all the parents and players.
Also a big thank you to the parents, not just for your help with the club duties, but also rain or shine, you’ve kept bringing the kids along and made sure they keep being involved and thrive in the atmosphere we’ve created in the age group – an atmosphere based on inclusivity, fun, discipline and each and every player enjoying their rugby.
Thank you also to Cara, the team manager – someone has to keep me organised!
It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be at the helm of this age group – onwards and upwards for next year!
