This has been a great season for the Ampthill U9’s and the players have loved their introduction to contact rugby. We have a large squad with 65 players registered and regularly have 45 players attending training on Sundays and midweek. We have had a lot of new players join this year and they have been positive additions to the team. The commitment of the players this season has been excellent and the coaches would like to thank them all for making the training sessions and the tournaments great fun. We started the season with an early tournament at Peterborough RFC that gave the players and coaches an early insight into contact rugby and what the season ahead was going to be like. Players stepped up to the challenge of rugby where they can now tackle and are developing into proper little rugby players! We represented ourselves well at the Beds cup this year losing to Bedford in the semi finals and played some good rugby at the Olney festival on the same day. Not many teams can put out two squads at two different tournaments and still have over 20 players training all on the same day!
We have a great coaching team whom without we would not be able to run such a large and successful age group. A big thank you to the coaches from the players, parents and Dan. We have some excellent parents who assist in many different ways and we would like to say thanks for your support both on and off the field this season. Thanks to our team manager Carolyn for her hard work and also our safeguarding officer Sarah Dickinson for their commitment to looking after the welfare of the players.
The season finished with another successful tour and we travelled with 48 players and their families enjoying the rules, court session and going back to their 80’s roots. The team played well at Wymondham RFC on the Saturday and the five teams entered into the Holt tournament on the Sunday were all excellent.
The coaches and parents are proud of all the players and what they have achieved this season. Thanks all for your hard work and commitment to the age group and we move forward again!
