Under 16s 22 v 0 Leighton Buzzard

After a one-sided match last week with the Ampthill under 16’s running away in an 81-3 win vs Biggleswade, they welcomed Leighton Buzzard to Dillingham Park fully expecting a harder game and Leighton Buzzard did not fail to deliver.

Buzzard started strong with their carries in the opening minutes and Ampthill struggled to gain any real possession although showing a great defence.
This continued for much of the first half with strong tackles and carries from both sides. Ampthill however was first to break the deadlock and opened the score with a fantastic snipe from scrum-half Toby Robinson down the blindside and expertly offloaded to try-scorer Tom Wra. This was closely followed by a great break from Buzzard which looked to be through, but Ampthill full-back Ollie Millward made a try-saving tackle. The first half was balanced with both sides making gradual progress up and down the pitch but ended as Ampthill 5 Leighton Buzzard 0.
Half-time brought a “pep talk” from Simon Spavins that Alex Ferguson would have been proud of, and Ampthill came out for the second half ready to take the game to Leighton Buzzard and they did not fail to deliver.
Ampthill scored their second try mid-way through the second half  – a run from Aaron Nahini from the halfway line going through the whole opposition team.
Tensions were rising as players started to get sloppy with 2 yellow cards being given.
After the second try, the Buzzard players heads started to drop and Ampthill began to capitalize by scoring another two more tries courtesy of Rafe Witheat who converted his own try, and closed out by another from Nathan Wickramasinghe to finish the game with a final score of 22-0 to the A’s
Onto Luton away next week………
