Match Preview: 1st XV v Richmond, Sat 12th Nov

Ampthill welcome old-friends Richmond to The Olney Field with both sides looking to kickstart their cup campaigns following round one defeats to Caldy and Pirates respectively!

The last meeting between the sides in February was played out in the tail of Storm Eunice– the Mob eventually prevailing by 13 – 8 in a game strongly dictated by the weather! The forecast in Central Bedfordshire is better this weekend.

Ampthill Head Coach Paul Turner makes five changes to starting XV this week. The front five in the pack is unchanged – Mikey Jones and Dom Hardman propping Beck Cutting in the front row with Captain Beckett and new lieutenant Harry Wilson alongside him. Fyn Brown makes his full debut on the blindside, whilst Cai Devine gets his first start of the season on the openside in the absence of Joe Bercis. Morgan Strong continues at number eight.

In the backs, Turner rotates his half backs with Lewis Finlay starting alongside Josh Bragman, Sam Hanks is partnered by George Worth in the centre whilst a back three of “Mo-Bro” Josh Skelcey, Conor Rankin and Alex Harmes will look to get the Mob playing on the front foot.

Following a final training session last night Turner said “Richmond deserve a lot of respect. They are a well drilled side with a strong set-piece and have some real attacking threats in the backline. We’ve had a productive week training and players are eager to perform after last week’s disappointment.”
