Elior Champ rugby returned to Dillingham Park for round four as the MOB welcomed Doncaster Knights in a sunny Bedfordshire.
A 1411 number crowd had come to the woods with plenty of match day activities providing for a top quality family day out.
Both teams had shown their amount of attacking flair in the opening three games of the season.
It would be the visitors, Doncaster, that would open the scoring a line- break sending in Wilf Mcarthy to score in the corner, fly-half Tom Curtis adding the extras.
The MOB would respond well with some attacking rugby of their own, Harvey Beaton taking advantage of the penalty to go over from close range, converted by Will Roue.
Both sides would trade scores, first Penaia Tagutu finding space to go under the posts before the hosts would react with one from captain, Seb Smith following a yellow card for Donny lock, Ben Glanville, 12-14.
Ampthill would have plenty of chances in the Doncaster half in the first half, but two quick-fire scores from the visitors sent them into the half-time break ahead.
The first from scrum-half Ollie Fox from the edge of a breakdown, before veteran winger Semesa Rokoduguni got one for himself, 12-26.
Momentum would continue with the travelling side, Adam Hopkinson finding a gap to go under the sticks.
The MOB would come back into the game, another driving maul helping replacement Ed Timpson to bundle over from close range followed by a superb score from Efan Jones off the back of a brilliant Tyler Offiah break, 26-35.
The MOB had a poor first forty and had a way back into the game but poor decision making and wrong options led to a difficult afternoon and on the hour mark the Knights began to take advantage of those poor decisions.
A second try for both Fox and Tagutu as well as a penalty try after a Fraser Rawlins yellow card secured the result for Doncaster.
