Former Premiership & Championship Rotherham Titans Visit Dillingham Park
Ampthill are honoured to host Rotherham Titans this Saturday, Nov 3rd. The visitors were relegated from the Championship last season after 14 seasons playing at level 2 since they last played at Premiership level.
Having had an indifferent start to their season they have struck a rich vein of form having won five consecutive games securing a bonus point in each to lie second in National 1, equal on points with leaders Old Elthaminans, with a played 9 won 6 record.
Comfortably the favourites for promotion before the season began, they are now playing like a side determined to regain their former status.
For the first time this season our 1stXV backed up a fine performance with another last week away at Bishop’s Stortford, a strong second half seeing them outscore their hosts 0-24 to record their second bonus point victory on the trot.
There are three changes to the Ampthill starting XV this week, in the pack Captain Billy Johnson moves from blind side to lock with Syd Blackmore taking his place on the flank while Euan McKirdy starts at scrum half after impressing from the bench at Stortford.
The bench has a slightly different feel with Olly Walliker promoted from the 1881s and Gavin Williams rotated to accommodate Eaun McKirdy.
Director of Rugby Mark Lavery comments “Rotherham are clear favourites to win National 1 and by far the best team in the division on recent form. As a result the Maroon and Gold need every support to help cheer them on against our illustrious visitors.
England v South Africa followed by Ireland v Italy will be on screened live in the club house so why not make a full day and evening with us at Dillingham Park.”
At the time of writing Rotherham’s team had not been confirmed, that shown below is their team which played last week against Plymouth Albion. The team will be updated as soon as available.
