  • The MOB put on a show in a 16-try North West Classic
Oct 17, 2026
The MOB travelled to the North West to face Caldy to close off a successful block one.
After a disappointing result at home last weekend there was much improvement to be made by those in Maroon and gold.
It would be a quick start for the MOB, some strong carries from captain Harrison Courtney and new Canadian recruitment, Isaac Olson gave the A’s great field position.
From that Ed Timpson would be able to drive over the line after some slick close range phases on the hosts line, Finn Keylock would open his account, 0-7.
The hosts would respond quickly, a grubber from the fly-half finding Will Robinson who picked up in space and run under the posts, this conversion less successful.
There had been much excitement at this new look backline and after a superb line break from Keylock, Timpson was on hand yet again to double his tally for the afternoon, 5-14.
Things got better for the MOB, another line break from Keylock, setting up Oscar Wilson for his first try of the 2026/27 Champ season, again the extras were added, 5-21.
Defending a driving maul has been a tricky task for all teams this season, and that would prove to be the case again as Matt Gallagher would drive over twice from close range after a lineout to make the score 19-21 at the break.
A slight slip towards the back end of the first half had dented the hard work from the MOB in the opening 40, but it wouldn’t seem too get to them as they would come out with a superb double score at the beginning of the second.
The first of the two coming from a lovely dummy pass from Keylock whose slick hands set up Asa Stewart-Harris to dodge and dive under the posts.
Barney Merrett would get himself on the scoreboard, Harrison Courtney’s strong line break setting up Kennedy Sylvester and he lofted the pass wide to Merrett who scored and managed to pull up at the same time, 19-35.
The Ravers attacking threat had looked most prevalent from driving mauls and again that would be shown two more driving maul scores sandwiching another free-flowing score from Oscar Wilson.
Two more scores for the MOB, replacement Efan Jones finishing off a lovely move started by a spinning Jevaughn Warren before Elliot Gourlay would go over the whitewash to score against his former club, 35-56.
The hosts would again score a quick-fire double Rhys Tudor and Harry Oliver went over as the MOB were reduced to 14-men after Tino Mapapalangi was sent to the bin.
A successful afternoon for the A’s would be topped off with a Champ debut try from hooker Jamie Fallon to cap off another high-scoring contest, 47-61.
The MOB now have a week off with the next challenge away at the Nick Newbold Stadium in two weeks time to kick-off block two.
