Ampthill/Redborne Rugby Partnership
“We are thrilled to announce that Redborne Upper School is partnering with Ampthill Rugby Club, bringing together two organisations committed to promoting sporting opportunities for young people. This exciting partnership will provide new opportunities for students to get further involved in rugby during PE lessons and after school clubs to develop their skills and build lasting relationships with other students and with the club’s talented coaches and players” – Ross Maddox, Head of PE, Redborne Upper School.
The partnership will see two of the club’s professional rugby players deliver specialist rugby coaching both within the curriculum to all students in Physical Education, and after school clubs for those pupils interested in developing their rugby skills and potentially representing the school in competitive fixtures.
Dan Phillips, Community Director of Rugby at Ampthill RUFC says “this is a partnership that we have been looking to develop for some time. The club ethos has always been “Rugby for All” and we hope this programme will provide access to the game for students who had never considered playing rugby or even team sports whilst assisting the school in developing its competitive presence both locally and in National competitions”
Redborne Upper School Headteacher Olly Button concludes “We’re delighted to be entering into this partnership with Ampthill RUFC and we’re very excited about the positive impact on our students of receiving professional coaching in lessons and extracurricular sessions, but also about how this initiative will support the continued expansion of participation in rugby within the local area”
The partnership will be further supported by club sponsors Canterbury and Physique who will be providing some playing kit and first aid equipment to the school teams.
